Hi
friends! Should you care to keep
reading, here’s an update on our happenings the past two weeks (weeks 18 & 19 of baby's life!).
Sunday March 17
Caleb’s parents were still in town and got to go to church
with us! This doesn’t happen often since
Caleb’s dad is a pastor. After church we
went out to lunch for some fried chicken and it started snowing heavy with huge
snow flakes. They were so big that even
though the ground was still warm, it was accumulating quickly and making the
streets slick. I’m ok with spring
holding off for a few more weeks if it means delayed allergy problems.
Sunday evening once the snow had all melted, I went to Target and bought one of the first few things we have bought for our baby. Crib sheets! I had a coupon to get some for half price and I loved the print on these, even though they don't exactly go with our turtle bedding, they are still adorable.
Sunday night we got a phone call from the church that Caleb
preached at in Centralia, MO the week before.
The reason we went to the church last week for Caleb to preach was to be
able to meet face to face with their pastor search committee. We previously spoke with them on a phone interview
prior to last weekend, but this weekend they were calling saying they would
like for us to come back in view of calling Caleb as their pastor. This is pretty exciting stuff. Of course this doesn’t mean that we are for
sure going to move back to Missouri to go to this church. We are going to have another meeting with
them in April to meet with their deacons and then the church to get to know
them more. Then they will vote as a church on whether or not they would like
for us to come. We have been praying
that God would make His will to us very clear in where we are to go. If things don’t work out next month, we will
be perfectly fine with that as well. We
will be happy to stay here to finish up what God would have for us to do. God knows the big picture much clearer than
we do! But living two hours away from both sets of parents would be a huge blessing (instead of living 4 and 6 1/2 hours away from parents) and we will live less than an hour away from Caleb's sister and her family.
Monday
So the snow storm turned into a thunder storm later Sunday
night into Monday. I woke up to the
sound of thunder and was laying in bed trying to fall back asleep. All of a sudden I saw a bright flash of light
and I knew a loud thunder boom was not going to be far behind it. Sure enough, it was super loud. That one woke Caleb up and he sat up real
fast and got up to look out the window.
I wasn’t sure what he was trying to see, but went ahead and went back
to sleep. The next day Caleb told me
that he really thought it was the sound of something exploding. I jokingly said “So your first reaction
during an explosion is to look out the window instead of protecting your
pregnant wife??” His response was “Well
I didn’t want to miss the mushroom cloud!”.
Right. Mushroom cloud then
wife. I get it. ;-)
Thursday
We went out to Red Lobster for dinner to celebrate our 4
years of dating bliss. I was
planning on ordering shrimp linguini alfredo but was also debating between that
and their coconut shrimp. It turns out
they have a platter where you can pick two entrees and both were options for the platter! Doesn’t this plate scream shrimp
perfection? I thought so.
Friday
In light of upcoming life changes, Caleb decided to quit his
job at UPS. Whether we stay here or move, he would need
to quit his job. It doesn’t pay enough
to support a family of three and with he would need to pick up a second
job. We also both like for him to be
home during the middle of the night. It
gives him peace that I’m ok and I feel better knowing that I don’t have to ward
off any axe murderers that may be hiding in our bathtub all by myself. Especially with being pregnant too and
getting further along in my pregnancy, it can be a challenge to get a hold of
him while at work since he can’t take his cell phone with him if something were
to go wrong. So yay for having my
husband home at night again! This also
gives him more time to get caught up in his classes before the end of the
semester and not be as rushed at the very end when we might be trying to make
plans to move. He can also enjoy what
time he has left while living here instead of having to sleep in two different
shifts during the day. The peace of mind all of this gives me is well worth the loss of his paycheck.
Saturday
I baked! In the
kitchen! And enjoyed it! It’s nice to really feel like myself again
and wanting to cook/sew/read/everything I liked to do before crazy hormones set
in. We had small group Saturday night so
I baked an apple crisp with some apples left over from last fall that were in
the freezer. It was deeee-licious. Fortunately/unfortunately there wasn’t a
whole lot left for us to take home. I
did bake two and have another one in the freezer. I’m hoping I have the will
power to keep it in there until a time when we can share it with other people
and I don’t eat the whole thing by myself in one setting. Because I will.
Sunday
The building we live in has been for sale for several years now. Since we have lived here I know we are on at least realtor #3. The newest realtor seems to be making the most effort to get it sold. He was having some sort of open house thing on Monday so I decided I should probably clean up some, especially since I tend to have a habit of leaving all of our clean clothes in the laundry room. It's just easier than trying to find my clothes in the dark in the morning whenever Caleb is still sleeping. It's so nice to have it clean now, but I can't promise it will stay that way.
Also we were supposed to have another winter storm move through. My parents said they got about 9 inches in St Louis, so I was fully preparing to wake up Monday morning to a few inches on the ground.
Monday
Well those few inches I was expecting turned into a few snow flakes that I had to dust off of my car. We have yet to have a decent snowfall since moving here. Not that I like driving in snow, I just like to be snowed in at home with my man.
The realtor showed up Monday to show our building. They asked Caleb to leave, which I really wasn't a huge fan of. I have heard horror stories of criminals using open houses to scout out burglaries. I know I'm overly paranoid, but it could still happen! When I got home from work on Monday I was telling Caleb how I didn't like that they asked him to leave (I know that's usually how open houses work, but at the same time, we aren't the ones selling it and we aren't the ones who hired these realtors so how do I know that we can trust this complete stranger in our apartment when we aren't home?). Caleb said everyone had left by time he came back home. I told him that there could be people hiding out in our apartment. He assured me there wasn't anybody, but when I asked him if he had checked everywhere he said he hadn't. I had to go to the bathroom so I made him go in the bathroom first and make sure there wasn't an axe murderer in the bathtub. He checked and told me everything was clear and that's not where murderers hide anyway. Everybody knows they hide in the bathtub and under your bed to grab your legs as soon as you get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Silly boy.
Tuesday
On my lunch break I went out to my car for a little bit and all of a sudden I felt kicking in my belly. Kicking! I had been feeling movement in my belly for a while but it started so early on in my pregnancy that I didn't know if it was actually baby or just my innards shifting and stretching. Or gas. But there was no denying this. I quickly texted Caleb to tell him about it. :-)
Tuesday afternoon I got a text from my St Louis friend Chelsea asking me what I was doing that night. I told her that I was eating dinner and watching wheel of fortune, of course. She asked if I wanted to go get coffee. I told her that was a far drive to go get coffee, but it turns out that her and her husband had decided to go to Louisville for a few days and they were driving right through New Albany! They weren't too far away when she texted so I invited them over and we visited for about an hour. I also got to meet her husband, David for the first time. I always love having friends from St Louis come visit, no matter how short of a visit it may be. :-)
Wednesday
My mom had sent us an Easter card with a Chick-fil-a gift card in it. As soon as I got home and saw that, I knew that's what I wanted for dinner. Caleb gladly obliged. We had a few cents left over on our gift card after paying for dinner and Caleb gave it to me to get some dessert. I had given in to my recent chocolate ice cream craving earlier that day and walked to Wendy's at lunch. Since I'm trying to not gain a ton of weight, I knew I shouldn't have dessert. Caleb went and got an ice cream cone instead. You probably saw this picture on facebook, but on our way home Caleb discovered that his ice cream cone was like "Easter morning", as he referred to it, inside. Lol I cracked up laughing and had him take this picture.
Thursday
A couple of weeks ago I saw a thing on facebook about this promotion going on at piperlime.com. I didn't know what in the world Piperlime was but apparently it's part of the Old Navy/Banana Republic/Gap company. This promotion was for $25 off of any order, no minimum. Piperlime was also having free shipping, so if you order something that is under $25, it would be completely free? Is this too good to be true? (Usually is, right?) I started looking at their baby shoes and they had some absolutely adorable shoes. Since we don't know what we're having yet, I thought about just ordering a pair of shoes and hoping that our baby was that gender. But then I found these adidas sandals. I thought they were really cute and could be gender neutral so I could be guaranteed to use them. I texted my sister in law to see what size shoes to order since her baby is going to be almost exactly a year older than mine and I wanted my baby to be able to wear these next summer, so I would just order whatever size her baby would wear this summer. I went to order them and for some reason it wouldn't accept my credit card number. Even though I didn't owe anything, it still required a credit card number (I was using a prepaid credit card that has less than $20 left on it so I couldn't get scammed too much). I called Piperlime to ask about this and they said that the promo was actually not real. Some third party website had created it and their website happened to be accepting some of the promo codes. I knew it was too good to be true! I was going to cancel my order since the code wasn't legit but she said she would go ahead and try to place the order for me and use my promo code and she got the order to go through! I still wasn't going to believe it until they came in the mail, and sure enough, they did! At absolutely no cost to me!
Also, Thursday night after dinner Caleb was putting up our leftovers (He made an awesome turkey and rice casserole) and I went and laid down on the couch. I felt the baby kicking like crazy. As soon as Caleb came over to the couch I had him lay down next to me to feel the baby and of course the little squirt quit moving. That night when I went to bed I laid down on my back in hopes that I could get the baby to kick. Sure enough it did and Caleb finally got to feel it! It was so awesome that he could feel it too. Feeling the baby makes it that much more real that there really is a baby in there!

After breakfast we walked to the art museum that is a block away to see their newest exhibit. It changes every few months so we always try to go see what they have. This exhibit wasn't nearly as cool as some of the others. It was featuring local artists from New Albany/Louisville from the early to mid 20th century. It was mostly paintings of landscapes and people, so I have no pictures to share with you from this.
Then we went to an antique mall that Caleb had spotted from the Sherman Minton bridge in New Albany that we had yet to visit. The place was huge inside. It was more on the expensive side and had a lot of antique furniture but Caleb found some books worth buying. Most of them are Charlie Brown books that are in really good condition for their age that he remembers reading as a kid. He did have to have some supervision while we were there to make sure he didn't buy too much. ;-)
Saturday afternoon I made a new purse for myself. I've never made a purse before, mostly because anytime I've ever wanted a new one my mom has always whipped one up for me. I like the purses with long straps that can go across your body and I don't have too many of those, so why not make a new one? I looked on pinterest for one to make and ended up combining some different ideas to end up with this:

| Those are supposed to be fabric roses on the front but I keep thinking they are wadded up tissues. |
Two more things before I finally depart. (If you are still reading this crazy long post I can't imagine how boring of a day you must be having)
1. The next time I post a weekly update we will have gone to the doctor and hopefully find out gender our baby is! (We are hoping it is not a giraffe like Caleb dreamt)
2. If you live in the Louisville area and watch WDRB, keep an eye out for their cutest pet contest promos. I submitted a picture of the cutest turtle ever. I happened to see the promo this morning but I only saw the last part of it because I was in the middle of making breakfast. So if he's on it, it will be toward the beginning. :-)
