Week of October 15

Just another ho-hum week over here!  That's good though.  We don't need a whole lot of excitement sometimes!

I decided to harvest all of my basil.  I picked at them so much at the beginning that they are all a little funky shaped and lopsided.  I don't know how they will do during the winter being in that window either.  So instead of risking them all dying, I decided to dry them in the dehydrator and just keep one plant.  That way we will have plenty of basil for now and I can always buy another 20 cent pack of seeds next spring.  And, now I can see my cute little plants in the window sill that are hiding behind all of that foilage. And I can sew without dead leaves falling on my stuff and sticking to my socks.  :-) 

Friday night when I got home from work and got comfy, Caleb told me not to get too comfy because we were going out that night.  I asked him where and he said that he needed some cereal from wal-mart.  Mhmm.  Really, he had been finding all of these orange leaf coupons in all of his stuff and had the wonderful idea of taking me there!  He blamed me for all of the coupons, but where would I have gotten that many orange leaf coupons??  Also, how would I have snuck them in his backpack, his lunch box, his books, the refrigerator, the cabinets, his pillow case,  his laptop, his shorts pockets, etc?  I could never pull that off.  Nope.  (this isn't even all of them.)

I mentioned last week about my whole eye doctor fiasco.  My sister-in-law texted me after she read that and told me about how she just went to America's Best Eyeglasses and how it was really affordable.  I made an appointment for this past Saturday.  They are definitely super affordable!  The doctor informed me that my eyes only changed a tiny bit.  He said I don't need to get new glasses and wont even notice the change in my contacts.  He said my new prescription is one click less in one eyeball than my old one.  Once I get my trial set of contacts I'll see how right he is.  I'm contemplating asking for a second opinion because I'm still not too sure that I don't need more of a prescription change.

Caleb and I went to Goodwill on Saturday and found some treasures....and this is how we spent our Saturday night.  Connect 4!  We got it for a dollar.  And I'm red by the way.  This was the one and only game that I won.

I also got these pants at Goodwill.  I've been wanting some skinny khaki pants but I was having a hard time finding some.  And I'm really cheap, so that doesn't help either.  I got these pants for $4 at goodwill.  Also, please note that I put these pants on solely for the purpose of taking this picture.  I do not wear red and khaki together for the fun of it.  Ever.

And this is the final product! Overall I like them.  :-)

A feeble attempt at a catch up post

Sorry for the lack of update last week.  I didnt update because I really didn't have anything to say.  :-/  I was still getting over that nasty cough funk I had going on and didn't do much of anything that week!  I've also been reallllly bad about taking pictures lately.  I'll give you the few that I have for the past few weeks.  And by few I have like 3.  I know, i know.  I'll try a little harder in the upcoming weeks.

Last week we really didnt have much going on.  Saturday was the Harvest Homecoming festival in New Albany.  Our church had a booth there seeing as how we kind of live right in the middle of the happenings, we hung out there on Saturday and just talked to people as they walked by.  I should have gotten pictures, that just didn't happen.

Monday night Caleb and I went out for dinner at Cheddars.  No reason, just that way we didnt have to cook dinner!  It's a very are occassion that we go out to eat, especially a non-fast food place, without a giftcard.  This is a night for the record books.  :-)

I have a handsome husband.  :-)

This past week on Tuesday my old roomie from my second year of college, Kara, came through on her way back to Tennessee!  She stopped by right at dinner time and a college friend of ours who is also going to seminary, Jordan, also came and had dinner with us.  It was great to catch up with them! 

Thursday morning when I fed my fishy, Biff, and he wasn't swimming up to the top to get his food.  I kind of shook his bowl a little bit to wake him up.  I looked over a couple of minutes later and he still wasn't moving.  I picked up his bowl and noticed that sadly he died.  :-(  Now, tell my why is it that the fish I want to stay alive dies, and the fish that are in our aquarium with Oscar won't die?  He has had fish friends for about two and a half weeks and there are still two in there that I guess he had befriended.  I started feeding the fish because I felt bad for them.  Clearly I am not a fish person.

Thursday night as Caleb was walking me to class, we noticed a beautiful sunset!  I snapped a picture in front of the library.

Friday night Caleb and I watched game 5 of the NLCS.  Although, I have to admit that I gave up after the Giants scored 4 runs in one inning.  Also, I was tired and fell asleep around 10.  All of these games and especially the night with a rain delay in St. Louis certainly keep my job interesting the day after.  I hate inconvenient commercial breaks, but if they could just air commercial breaks at their scheduled time it would make life easier for me.  :-)  I guess I should just be happy that they air the NLCS games here in Looavull.

I had set up an appointment with an eye doctor for Saturday afternoon.  I haven't been in over a year so I'm almost out of contacts and 95% sure that I need a new prescription.  I set up an appointment with JCPenney and when I showed up they informed me that I wasn't going to be able to use my insurance.  I was so frustrated because I certainly can't pay full price for everything eyeball related.  I wish the girl who took down my insurance information would have let me know that they don't accept my vision plan.  Sigh.  It took me forever just to finally get myself to make an appointment and now I'm back to square one.  Actually more like square negative two because it turns out that pretty much no place has even heard of my vision insurance so now I have to go on a quest just to find out where I can go that will accept my insurance.  On a happier note, while we were at the mall I got my rings scrubbed and all sparkly.  *ting!*

Then Saturday night our friend Jordan invited us over for dinner.  It was pretty much a night of two boys talking about super heroes, but it was still good to hang out.  :-)

Oh and here's a bonus picture.  Caleb got out the bow tie pasta.  I think it's a good look for him.

Week of 9/30

Is it already time for another update?  I guess that's what happens when you wait until Wednesday to update.  Anyway, onto our week:

Sunday:

We drove back to Indiana from spending the weekend in St. Louis.  I tried getting a picture of the pretty color-changing trees but it was hard to capture it all.  Here's my best effort:

Monday and Tuesday:

My parents got Oscar a new 20 gallon aquarium since he was quickly outgrowing his 10 gallon.  Caleb worked late Monday night so I cleaned out his old aquarium and got everything ready to go for his new one.  The only problem was that the aquarium was too big to fit on the shelf where he sits, so I had to wait to get everything set up until Tuesday night once Caleb got a chance to put the aquarium on some boards to raise it up a little to make it fit.  Oscar looks tiny again!

He got some house-warming presents...err..roommates...err...snacks.

Wednesday:

The Frazier Museum downtown is having a Princess Diana exhibit with some of her dresses, including her wedding dress, along with some other stuff.  They have this nifty little cut-out out front where you can get your picture taken.  The sun was bright, I didn't mean to make a ridiculous looking face.

I also finished my skirt I was telling you about a couple of weeks ago that I was working on.  I had it all laid out with matching attire to wear on Thursday...


Thursday:

....Except I woke up feeling crummy.  I didn't have much energy and I knew that my annual October cold was not going to give me a break this year.  I spent msot of my day sleeping and drinking this yummy goodness (and airborne.  That stuff is amazing).  I was determined to kick this cold out.

Friday:

So I got to wear the skirt today.  I had more energy than I did on Thursday but my throat was not giving me a break at all.

I went out for an afternoon walk but I got too tired shortly after I started walking.  Since it felt so good outside, I decided to sit and enjoy the weather for awhile.  Here was my lovely view.  :-)

Saturday:

I'm feeling much better today, although I still don't have much energy.  Caleb helped me make up some freezer meals this morning to have on hand for the next couple of weeks.  Right as we were finishing up, the harvest homecoming parade got to our part of the street.  We went outside to take a gander, stepping around the couple sitting on our doorstep.  Next year maybe we can make a "reserved seating" sign for our doorstep since it seems to be a popular place for the parade (we had the same thing happen last year).

Here was the New Albany High School band.  All I have to say is, if this is how we could have done marching band, I would have never quit.  Sign me up for the trailer!

A remake of our picture from last year with our excited faces on, sitting on the steps of the house next door.  Nobody ever wants to sit on the steps of the creepy looking house.

Caleb and I took a walk tonight and noticed this realtor's name.  Do you think he/she (I think it's a she) ever gets made fun of for a name like this? 

Oh, I also sewed up some other little lovelies.  I made covers for our throw pillows! Nothing was wrong with our pillows before, I just thought some change and sprucing up would be fun.  My sister in law gave me the idea of the light colored ones with the turtle silhouette when we were in Ewing a few weekends ago. Caleb came up with the idea of the dark ones with the turtle cut out of them.  Those clever Smith sibilings. Anyway, I made two sets of these and they can easily be taken off so that when the mood strikes me to make some new ones again, I can just slip these off and change them periodically.

Week of September 23

Sunday: 

Lunch was a bit delayed before we headed back to Indiana.

 

Monday and Tuesday:

I got a big bag full of apples from my mother-in-law who got them from her mom (thank Grandma Connie!). Both nights were mostly spent peeling and slicing these so that I could get them in the freezer for future baking bliss. The only problem is my raw fruit allergy so if I accidently scratched anything on my face, it would start to horribly itch. Of course, knowing that, everything on my face seemed to constantly itch.  Oh, also, my husband has some sweet apple peeling skills.  He can peel an apple faster than I can slice one with an apple slicer. He saved me so much time.  :-) 

 

 

I also am not good with a very sharp apple slicer. Dr. Doofenshmirtz knows how to make everything better.

 

 

Wednesday:

There’s a storm brewin!  I love when the sky looks like this.

 

 

Thursday:

I’m not sure what happened, but it looked like a flock of birds exploded. An entire street downtown had these feathers everywhere for several blocks.

When I was eating dinner with Caleb before my class, I got bit by a mosquito. I think my allergy to these seems to be getting worse. My foot got all swollen and itched like crazy. This picture was right after it happened, so it got a little puffier after this. Although I did find that rubbing apple cidar vinegar on it helps with the itch.

 

 

Friday:

We drove to St. Louis on Friday after I got off work (yay for half days!)  We got to go eat dinner with John and Laura. It was so so good to see them (and their new puppy!). For a class Caleb has to interview two couples regarding marriage and ministry. One couple had to have been in the ministry for at least 25 years (Caleb interviewed his grandparents for that one the weekend before since they have been in the ministry for well over 50 years). The other couple had to be in the ministry for less than 5 years. This is Caleb interviewing John and Laura.  They couldn’t look at each other because apparently they couldn’t take each other seriously. Ha.

 

 

Saturday:

Family Reunion day! This was a family reunion with my mom’s side of the family. I stole these pictures from my ant’s facebook. (And yes, I call her ant, not to be confused with aunt.)
