Saturday Procastination Project #3

This is the last Saturday that I am a college student.  It feels weird.  However, all the more reason to procrastinate, right?!?  Today was a city-wide garage sale here in Hannibal.  I really wanted to go for a walk today, so I thought it would be fun to go to some garage sales close by.  We only actually saw 2 garage sales and only went to 1 of them.  Instead, we ended up downtown and went to antique malls instead.
I found some stuff I liked, but kept reminding myself that we are moving and whatever I buy has to be moved too.  Sigh.  However, I dont believe this doll belonged in an antique mall.  More like in a horror movie.  I thought it might be a good house-warming present for my sister though.

While we were down there, we climbed up the levy to see how high the river was, since the flood gates are still up.  I think the flood gates are working really well.

But as Caleb pointed out, this water was running to a drain so I guess the wall is at least keeping the water flowing at a manageable rate.

Once we got home, I decided to plant some seeds!    Some of them are african daisies, and the other kind is some blue flower I don't remember the name of, but it looked pretty on the package.

I'm still alive

The past week has been a little bit hectic.  I had to give my last individual presentation and I had a few tests this week to keep up with, along with still adjusting to working at my new job.

Friday night as soon as I got home from work, we packed up and headed to Ewing for Secret Church.  It is a simulcast from a church in Alabama and they promote awareness of the persecuted church.  In the persecuted church, many of them meet for hours at a time when they have the chance to meet.  This simulcast lasted from 6-after midnight.  I'll be honest, I was not a huge fan of going to church until midnight after working for 9 hours, but the experience was awesome.  The pastor covered some of the main doctrines of theology (basically a whole week of theology camp cramed into 6 hours).  I made it almost the whole time, with just a short little nap on Caleb's shoulder around 11:30 :-).  There was also a book written by the pastor that talks about taking your faith back from the American Dream.  It is an awesome book...one that I have a hard time putting down.  Hopefully I'll get to have some blogs about some of the things in that book.  Good Stuff.

Since it was so late Friday night, we spent the night at Caleb's parent's house.  We left Saturday afternoon, took a nap, packed up some more things and headed to Bowling Green Saturday night to spend the night since we had a sunrise service at church on Sunday morning.  I've honestly never been to a sunrise service, but I enjoyed it...even  more since Caleb was preaching and I don't get to hear him preach much anymore.

Sunday after church we headed to my parent's house in St Louis for Easter dinner.  Today I got to go shopping with my mom and eat lunch with her.  I really wish we lived closer so we could go shopping together more often.  :-)  Once our seven loads of laundry were done, we headed back to Hannibal and now it's back to school tomorrow.

So, needless to say, there was no need for a Saturday Procrastination Project this weekend and now I feel like I need a weekend from my weekend.

Saturday Procastination Project #2

My husband is not a big sweets person.  I haven't exactly figured out if this is a good thing or a bad thing.  It's good because it causes me to not bake as often, but it's bad becuase when I get the urge to bake something, I usually have to eat most of it by myself (he does usually at least try it) or find other people to share with.

Today is one of those days where I want to bake.  Seeing as how I now have 1 test, 3 finals, 3 papers, and 2 presentations left to get done in the next two weeks, what better way to spend my Saturday afternoon than making inside-out carrot cake muffins!

They aren't as sweet as a carrot cake, but I think they are good.  Caleb told me he didn't like them.  My sister said I could take her some, but once I was making it I realized she wouldnt want any since it has ginger in it.  And for those of you who know my sister, you know how upset she gets about ginger.  Looks like I'll be freezing these puppies and eating them over time.  :-)

My picture, of course, doesn't quite look as picture-perfect as the recipe did, but they turned out pretty good.

(Oh, and those dishes in the background?  Don't mind those.  They just have my homemade cinnamon rolls and sour dough bread rising in them. NBD.)

Mail is Always Welcomed Here

This is certainly enough to put a smile on anyone's face these days.  It may only buy half a tank in my 12 gallon car, but that should be almost sufficient for a trip to St Louis and back for Easter.  Thanks, Mom!

The Inevitable

I'm about to graduate with my bachelor's degree, and I've never written a paper in college.  I was assigned one in Speech class, but I turned in one that I wrote in high school.  I had to write a paper in princles of finance, but it was mostly just financial ratios and not really a paper. I thought I was in the clear by only having 4 weeks left of my college career....and BAM.  I get assigned 3 papers.  3! I don't quite understand my teacher's logic for the timing of giving us these papers to write, but I don't get paid the big bucks either.
So now this weekend I'll be digging through my brain trying to remember how to write a decent paper.  I guess now is the time to get my brain checked back in and get my rear in gear.

On a happier note, I started my new position at work this week, and so far it's been great!  I get to see sunlight and I get to work with other people.  My job is no longer mind-numbing and time actually goes by fast.  Now that's the kind of job I've been looking for.  :-)

My Saturday Procrastination Project

With only 4 weeks until graduation, senioritis is kicking in pretty bad.  I only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so the weekends are realllly hard for me to get motivated to work on school work.  So instead of taking the time on this free Saturday of mine to study for a test, I made this instead.  (And made homemade cinnamon rolls for my husband)

Apartment Living

Apartment living is something that has definitely taken some getting used to in the past 3 months since I got married.  I didnt think it would be much different than living in a dorm with 70+ girls....but I was wrong.  Don't get me wrong here.  The Lord was gracious in providing us with an affordable place to temporarily live, and I am so grateful for that.  The rent is affordable and the utilities we have to pay for are at a minimum.  By living here we have been able to save up money.  However, this place does have some character and quirks.  Here are some examples:

1.  The shower head is super bi-polar.  I'm pretty sure that some mornings I spend more time trying to find a happy medium between scorching hot and freezing cold than I do actually showering.  We don't have our own hot water heater, so I guess whenever someone in the building flushes their toilet or turns on the water, the temperature of our water goes crazy.  However, the hard water pressure is very nice.

2. The bedroom doors.  Or lack of.  Here is a picture from inside of the bedroom looking out.  The other bedroom is the same way....its a good thing we arent going to be having kids while living here.  I hung up a curtain that I had used in my apartment last year in college just to help keep some of the light out.

3. Notice that door with the mirror on it in the picture above?  That's my closet door.  Here's what the inside looks like.

It's just wide enough for a hanger....

And the bar goes straight back.  I forget about some of the clothes I have sometimes because I can't see them.  And to get to the clothes in the back, you have to move out all of the stuff on the floor of the closet and maneuver back there. Its interesting. At least I dont have to share this closet with Caleb.  He has one of his own, but the gibberish design doesnt bother him as much because he doesn't have many hanging clothes, and he only wears his hanging clothes once a week to church.

4. The back door.  It doesnt seal up, at all. This door doesnt lead straight outside, just to a tiled stairwell that leads to the back outside door.  This is how far away the door is from the door frame.

You can even see the neighbor's back door while sitting at the kitchen table through this gap.
This wouldnt be a problem at all if the neighbors didnt smoke like chimneys or get it fights at 3 am right outside this door.  We've thought about getting some stuff to seal up this door and my mom even suggested newspaper, but we havent tried anything yet.  My luck, we would stuff things in it and then someone would come knocking at this door for once.

5.  Neighbors.  Living in a dorm, I got pretty used to sound and people always being around, but I forgot about how much I took for granted that my neighbors in college were Christians and held to the rules of HLG.  There are no rules and based on the language I hear and actions I see around this apartment, the people dont seem to be Christians.  I realize that life can't always be butterflies and rainbows, but I have definitely learned to have more respect for the people living in this apartment building because they only thing I can do is to treat them the way that I would like to be treated.

So that's apartment living for us right now.  I look forward to the lease being up at then end of June and seeing where the Lord leads us next.  Hopefully somewhere where we can't hear our neighbors.  :-)

A new (awkward?) start

So for about a year now I have been toying with the idea of starting a blog.  I didnt start one because I didn't know who would read it (other than my dedicated mother and I can just call her on the phone) so why start a blog if nobody is going to read it?  But right now I'm at a point in my life where I have departed from friends and I will again soon be departing from even more friends, so why not start now?

I've also hesistated about a blog because I hated the idea of having an awkward first post.  What do I say?  Do I just jump into some random rambling, or do I explain why I have a blog?  So here is that awkward first post.  Hopefully in the next few days I'll be able to add several posts so there's some substance.
