August 5-8
Brother shirts:
Amy got the boys personalized brother shirts. She got these awhile before Cade was even born. She got Liam a 2t/3t shirt and Cade a 3-6 month onesie. I was planning on getting some pictures taken of them this fall wearing the shirts, but since Cade is getting so big I had to take them at 1 month instead. I had to try 3 different times of putting them in these shirts to try to get a good picture. I didn't get exactly what I was wanting, but that's ok. I'm going to hang the shirts up in Cade's room as decoration now.
It just turned into a wresting match. ;-)
Take two!
I love how much these two already love each other.
This is probably my winner.
After I got these pictures I took them out of their shirts before they either got food or poop on them. Liam is in a weird phase where he doesn't like wearing a shirt and he always tries to get us to take our shirts off. Caleb obliges him....I do not. Anyway, Liam loved that baby brother didn't have a shirt on either.
Getting the van registration renewed:
Caleb went and got the new tires put on the van on Friday. We went and got the van reinspected and then took it to the license office in Mexico to try to get our tags renewed.
Can I rant about this? Ok thanks. (This might get boring. Feel free to skip this part) They couldn't renew our tags because we didn't have proof that property taxes were paid in 2013. We bought the van in 2013 and we didn't have to pay taxes. It says on the renewal card they send out when the van was bought, but still they apparently have to have proof. Mexico is in Audrain county and we live in Boone county. So Audrain had to call Boone county to get proof that we didn't have to pay taxes but Boone county wouldn't provide that until they got proof that taxes were paid on Caleb's car in 2013, which was done in Lewis county and Boone county couldn't get a hold of Lewis county. Did you follow that? Basically what it comes down to is the DMV is ridiculous. First of all, what does taxes on Caleb's car have anything to do with the van? After we left I got on the DMV website and did the online renewal option. Fortunately we bought the van from my parents so I was able to get a copy of their personal property tax receipt and enter that information and we were able to get tags without any problem. Now what I really don't get is that online you have the enter the information exactly as it is on your personal property tax receipt. It can tell you within a click of a button whether or not the information you entered is correct. That tells me that there is a database somewhere with all of that information. If that's the case, why can't each license office have access to that and not have to contact different counties to get faxes of the information they need? Why can't they just look up the van information and see that taxes were paid? It's no wonder every body in those offices has a reputation for having stinky attitudes. It's way more complicated and stressful than it needs to be. Rant over.
Ezra's birthday party:
August 7 is Ezra's birthday and Christa had a party for him that evening. We went to their house to celebrate.
I was exhausted at his party and it completely slipped my mind to get some pictures. I did get one though because I went into the playroom and saw clear evidence that my son had been there.
Caleb didn't have Bible study Saturday morning but he still got up with both kids and let me sleep. I didn't know this until I woke up at 10:30 and realized he and Cade both weren't in the bedroom. I couldn't believe I slept that late but boy did I feel amazing. I even got caught up on laundry AND dishes with all of that extra energy!

Showing off his under armor onesie for his aunt amy. And that belly...
Liam found some stickers.
Liam snuck home some of Ezra's new Daniel Tigers he had just gotten for his birthday. He kept giving them ugga muggas.

Cade's doctor's appointment
Cade has been having some respiratory issues. He often wakes up in the middle of the night and has trouble breathing. It sounds like he is congested and he makes high pitched squealing noises like he can't get air. As long as he is completely upright he is fine. I moved his big swing into our room so he could sleep in something that is pretty elevated. That helps some but he still has issues. Using an aspirator doesn't help at all and it doesn't get anything out. I took him to the pediatrician on Friday just to get checked out and she said he looked fine. He probably just has some inflamed membranes in his nose. She wants me to use saline, vicks, and humidity to see if that helps.
Cade weighed in at 13 lbs 11 oz while he was at the doctor. He's pretty much at the top of the percentile charts for his age (six weeks). Wednesday he had gotten weighed and he was 13 lbs 5 oz. Six ounces in two days!! His 0-3 month clothes are mostly packed away now. Liam didnt get this big until well into winter time so when I thought my baby clothes would match the same seasons again this time around, I was wrong. Liam, on the other hand, is still running around in 12-18 month shorts and pants.
He got his brother a sticker.
After his appointment he was sound asleep in his car seat so I decided to try to go get my hair cut. He did great for half of the hair cut and then woke up screaming. There was a guy cutting my hair and he wasn't exactly sympathetic or understanding of having a baby. He wouldn't give me a chance to do anything for Cade. The whole place was full of people and had a full waiting room. I just knew they were all rolling their eyes at me. I could feel it. Fortunately a lady came and asked me if she could help me. She got Cade out and he snuggled up next to her and was content. She was absolutely in heaven. :-) I'm sure there was probably a round of applause when I finally left. (I just made a new friend here in Centralia and she cuts hair! Hopefully I'll never have to relive this nightmare again)
Naps
Liam has pretty much started asking to go take a nap. He'll get his blanket and whatever stuffed animals he wants to sleep with and will bring them to me. He'll snuggle up when I lay him down, but then sometimes when I leave the room he will sit there and babble for up to two hours. I'm ok with that since he's still resting and not running around, but one day I went in there and he had thrown everything out of his crib and had chewed off his amber bracelet. It has knots in between every bead so if it breaks all of the beads won't come off. Also, where he broke it he wasn't able to get any beads off to swallow them. He has been having more terrible attitudes lately and I don't know if it is just part of turning two or if it could partly be because of that bracelet. I'm really considering trying to figure out a way to fix it or even buying him a new one to see if it makes a difference. I know he still has one tooth coming in and those two year molars have to be on their way (I never knew noticed a difference when any of his other four molars came in).
Liam's birthday party!
We celebrated Liam's birthday with family on the Saturday before his birthday. We didn't have as big of a party like we did last year and I have no regrets. Our new house isn't as open as the old one so it gets crowded quicker. Also, I've been so exhausted that I just couldn't even think about planning a big party. Liam still had a great time with his extended family.
Instead of wrapping all of the Batman toys I got for Liam from that swap shop group on facebook, I just put them all in a tote an put a blanket over it. He was still super excited to pull the blanket off.
Checking it all out with his dad. I'm not sure who was more excited to get to play with all of it.
Getting to sit on Great Grandma's lap! (Can you believe that little chunk is only 6 weeks old??)
Later the rest of the party showed up and he got to open more presents.
Woody! And he now has all of the toy story movies!
His theme this year was Veggie Tales. My mom had this cake made for him. It was so cute!
Liam loved it.
These four boys (Nehemiah doesn't appear to be pictured here) played with these new batman toys for a long time.
Enjoying a pickle with Aunt Christa
Chilling with Uncle Micah
I did get some video from the party. After looking back on the videos I realized that I am terrible at recording. Pretty much everyone's heads were cut off except for Liam's, so I apologize to every one else that was there. Also, my movie maker program isn't working right so it's not the greatest.
I was trying to get him to pout with me for a picture to send to Amy. This is what he gave me.
I crack up every time I see this one.
That. Belly.
Our mosquitoes are so bad that this is how Cade gets to play outside.
Sound asleep. Yep. He was snoring away with his eyes open like this.
I feel like this picture could have a good caption to it.
They are thrilled that they already get to be dressed alike!
Good morning smiles :-)
He always wants to be just like Dad.
I make him put his own diapers away
Week of August 16
Liam's doctor's appointment:
Liam had his 2 year doctor's appointment the day after his birthday. Caleb had to work so I had to go by myself. The morning started off with Liam waking up much earlier than normal followed by Cade filling 3 diapers back to back right as we are trying to get out the door. I needed to go to Target to exchange some diapers since Little Bit is growing way too fast. The girl at guest services was not the most helpful person. Cade was crying the whole time I was trying to get them returned. When we got back to the baby department for me to get the new diapers I took Cade out and tried calming him down by holding him because I know that he hates his car seat. It sort of worked. I finally got out of the store and Liam was as poopy as could be. I got him changed and then Cade decided he wanted to eat. I fed him in the van and finally we were on our way to the doctor's office. We got in the building and Liam didn't want to wait at the front desk to check in because he wanted to go see the fish. Once we finally got checked in I let him go look at the fish. That lasted about 2 seconds and then he wanted to go see the newborn baby at the front desk. I had to set Cade's car seat down to go chase him and corral him back to the waiting room. As soon as we got to the waiting room the nurse called us back. Liam threw himself down on the floor because he didn't get to see the fish. (Deep breaths, Melissa) The nurse came and got Cade so I could scrape Liam off the floor. By the time we got to the room Cade was upset but Liam needed to be stripped down to a dry diaper. I got Liam all set and before I could even get Cade out of his car seat, Liam had opened the door and was escaping down the hallway. Again, the nurse came to my rescue and returned him. Liam got weighed and stuff then we had what seemed like an eternity waiting for the doctor. I'm sure it was probably only like 10 minutes but it seemed like forever. Liam was in a terrible mood and probably would have been ok if I could have snuggled him on my lap, but Cade wouldn't let me put him in his car seat without screaming his head off. Liam got to see the doctor then had to get a shot. By this time I somehow got Cade content in his car seat so I could console Liam when cried as if the nurse was hacking his leg off when she gave him the shot. After I got him calmed down and dressed we left (unknowingly leaving behind his favorite bear) and had to go to the lab for him to get routine blood work done. He did just fine with the finger prick but they had to get a decent amount of blood from that prick so he was getting mad at the lady for squeezing his finger so much. Then how dare that lady stick a band-aid on Liam's finger. He hates band aids on his finger more than the shots and finger pricks themselves. I had to wait for his finger to stop bleeding so I could take off the band aid before we left. We finally got to leave and went home. I always try to keep Liam awake in the car so he doesn't take a 10 minute nap and think nap time is done for the day. Now I have the challenge of trying to keep Liam awake but keep Cade asleep at the same time. I succeeded and couldn't have been more happy to get home. (Caleb went and rescued the bear on his lunch break)
This was how great of a mood he was in while we were waiting for the doctor
His appointment went well. The doctor asked me how many words Liam can say and then told me that 50 words is the low end. I told her I couldn't even think of 10 words. He can pretty much only say Mama, Dadna, Bubba, no, ow, hi, bye, tickle, cracker, and batman. He uses the sound "baba" for pretty much everything else. She told me that I need to be pushy and force him to use words and if that doesn't work then we have to start talking about speech therapy. We tried forcing him to use words for a couple of days and it created more tears than we felt was really necessary. With him not going to day care along with going through the transition of having a new brother, it's not uncommon for him to not be talking more. I know all children develop at different rates and he might just take a little bit longer to talk. He very obviously understands a great deal, he just can't verbalize it all. She wants me to keep her updated on any progress when I take Cade to his bimonthly appointments, but if I don't bring it up I bet she won't remember until he goes back next year for his next well child visit. She also wants me to take Liam to Cade's next appointment so he can get a flu shot and that's not going to happen either.
I also got a call the day after his appointment from the nurse and she said they tested for iron levels in the blood work that they did. His iron level is supposed to be at 34 and he is at 33.5 so the doctor wants him to get on a daily vitamin with iron. Fortunately it's high enough that they don't need to retest him as long as he is on a vitamin.
Going for a walk:
Wednesday night I didn't go to church. It's just a lot of work during this season of my life, especially when we pretty much just end up sitting in the nursery. Anyway, I was trying to get these tots ready enough to at least go out for a walk. I put Cade in my mei tai carrier and I was going to push Liam in the stroller, but right as we were about to walk out the door Caleb came home and he went with us and just held Liam's hand so he could walk and get out some energy.
All ready to go!
Running away!
It was such a beautiful night for a walk.
I kinda like them both a lot.
Cade got all snuggled in and took a nap.
Potty Training:
I kind of sort of started trying to potty train Liam. I at least got the potty chair out and I have him sit on it occasionally. I don't think he really understands what he is supposed to do, but he really likes the attention he gets while he sits there because he always suddenly wants to sit on the potty right when I'm busy feeding or changing Cade.
(I promise he has a package of fruit snacks in his lap that he is eating)

All schnazzed up for church on his birthday
Helping Daddy try to fix the refrigerator
This was a pretty big day that needed to be documented. Liam shared his beloved bear AND bunny with Cade.
I guess Cade had an important phone call to make.
Bubbles. :-)
He did this all on his own. Such a deep thinker.
Haha!
Wearing Christmas jammies because he's as big as Liam was at Christmas time two years ago!
Here's a comparison of these two. (Liam at 4 months, Cade at seven weeks)
I told Liam it was time to go eat lunch. He fixed himself a lunch of animal crackers and gerber graduate crackers.
Check out these guns!
Week of August 23
Not a whole lot has happened this week so far but I do have some pictures!
All ready to go to church!
Liam insists on sitting on this boat when we go to the nursery.
My other nursery buddy. :-)
So handsome.
His Sunday afternoon nap. He was zonked!
This is how I found homeboy here on Monday morning. He was stuck in his shirt. I was trying to figure out how he got stuck this way and it's beyond me. I was able to get the shirt off of him though.
He still needs some Bumbo support. :-)
That's all for now!
