Monday - I took Liam to his dermatologist appointment. First we had to tell the nurse everything that was wrong, then a resident came in and we had to tell her everything that was wrong, then the doctor came in and again we had to tell him what was wrong. None of them really knew what kind of an answer to give us. They ruled out it being anything fungal (they tested flakes of his skin) and he said it must be some kind of eczema, but it is odd that it would be so localized in just his toe. The official diagnosis was "eczemous dermatitis". They prescribed a steroid cream to put on it. Between using the steroid some and also using a mix of coconut, lavender, and cedarwood oil, his toe is looking so much better!
The poor little guy was so tired while we were there. He kept trying to lay down on the floor (yuck - who knows whats been on that floor).
This is what his foot looked like before his doctor's appointment...
And look how pretty it is now! I still have to keep it moisturized, but at least it doesn't look like it's going to fall off anymore.
Tuesday - Karisha came over Tuesday morning and we took a walk around Centralia. Liam really needed a nap so we came back and hung out at the house for awhile.
Tuesday evening we went to a Parents As Teachers event at the car dealership here in town. They were having car seat checks and we got a 100% thumbs up on ours for being installed correctly! They had a fire truck there along with a bounce house but Liam wasn't too interested in any of those.
Wednesday - I got to work on some projects. Some I can tell you about, some I can't yet.
Since our lease was up in June I haven't wanted to do too much around the house because I kind of hoped that we would move. It's not that there is really anything wrong with our house, but it's not set up super great. Just thinking ahead for the future, I wanted to move into a different house that we could comfortably expand our family in over the next few years. After a few months of looking at rental houses we scratched that idea because we aren't going to find anything we liked for the same price or cheaper than what we pay now. We started looking at buying but the more research I do the more I realize that we would be so so much better off if we could save up a 20% down payment for a house. So for now we are staying put in our house and we will make do if we have any big family changes (I'm not hinting anything. Liam is still very much an only child).
So to make myself feel better about our lack of storage space on our first floor I have tried to come up with some ideas to have things more organized. First up, the pantry. We had a lot of stuff in our pantry that wasn't food, like paper plates, plastic utensils, etc. so I re-purposed some big wipe boxes to use for storage in the kitchen. I painted them brown and made covers for the top of them to keep dust out.
I started with boxes like these
And turned them into these.
I have plans to make something artsy fartsy to go in between the boxes.
Thursday - It rained and rained. I worked on some more secret sewing projects. :-)
Friday - Our Parents As Teachers group was having a play time that morning and we were dressed and ready to go until Liam's monster side came out. It was right during Liam's nap time so we just stayed home and let him nap and I worked on catching up on blog posts. :-)
I also got a planner in the mail! I'm actually pretty excited about this. It occurred to me on Wednesday afternoon when the pediatrician called because I had forgotten to call her on Tuesday that I really need to stay more organized and on top of things. Planners used to not really work so well for me (mostly when I didn't have much that needed planning) but when I was working full time I had a planner that I wrote everything down in so I wouldn't forget anything. I realized, why should I treat my job as a stay at home mom any differently? I got on amazon and ordered one with an amazon giftcard courtesy of Bing rewards. Hello organization.
Saturday - We were supposed to have a church work day at our new property but it was cancelled since we got so much rain. We had a pretty chill morning with all three of us home. Then Saturday evening we had a church movie night and watched "God's not dead". Liam was apparently an angel in the nursery the whole time.
So we got rid of Netflix a few months ago, I think back in March. It only cost $8 per month, but it's still $8 per month that we could be saving. (When your husband is a pastor and still in seminary, you do whatcha gotta do). We already pay for amazon prime with our amazon mom membership and that comes with Amazon Instant Video, which is like Netflix but not as good. Caleb got an email for a free month of Netflix and he couldn't resist, so we got it again this week. It's been bittersweet. We have been able to catch up on some shows again, but it makes it really hard to be productive during naptime. Sigh.
And another thing. Liam has been having issues where he cries in his sleep. I'm not sure what is up with it but some nights he wakes me up about once an hour crying. Sometimes it lasts for a few seconds and sometimes it lasts for a few minutes. I usually let him cry just a little bit to see if it will stop. If it doesn't then I go in there to see what's wrong and usually by time I get in there he has stopped and he is sound asleep, breathing heavily like he's in a deep sleep. It makes for some very restless nights because then I have a hard time going back to sleep, if I'm even able to before his next episode. Earlier this week I bought some of that cedarwood oil that I used for Liam's eczmea and I rubbed it on both of our feet Thursday night. I think the little guy and I both had the best night's sleep we have had in a long time.
Some more pictures from this week:
Caleb brought me home some flowers. :-)
Liam enjoys our new bathroom mirror.
Liam woke up chilly so of course he needed some snuggles with dad to warm him up.
Turtle tent fun!
Liam's favorite game is still definitely peek a boo.
