Week of October 5

This was a pretty low-key week.

On Monday we went to St. Louis because the North American Mission Board was having a conference at FBC Arnold.  They had a lab/workshop thing in the afternoon and then they had a time that evening of worship and David Platt spoke.  I thought it was pretty great and we met up with Caleb's family there.  I also ran into some people that I knew and hadn't seen in a long time, so that's always cool!

I know you can't tell in the picture, but this is David Platt.  I was kind of excited to see him.  :-)

We dropped Liam off with his grandparents while we went to the conference.

I'm sure he's telling Jim some sort of story.
In a race with Piper to see who can eat the most Cheerios off of the floor.  (I think Liam lost)
Liam even got to meet his Great-Grandma Betty.

Tuesday - I was hoping that Liam would sleep in after his big day at his grandparents house, but he was up and at 'em early Tuesday morning.  I told him to look crabby for a picture.  I got this.

Also on Tuesday Liam finally cut his first two top teeth! It would be nice if they were both of his front middle teeth, but I'll take whatever.  :-)

Friday -Liam and I went for a walk and I took him to the park.  He wasn't too impressed though and in his defense it was a little bit chilly outside. We couldn't even go down the slides because they were all wet.

Hanging onto his hood.  And in his hand is an attachment to my new hair dryer that he insisted on carrying.  We never made it home with that attachment.  It's a good thing I don't use them.
 Checking out the playground
"Mom!  I'm not so sure about this!"

Friday morning I was in the pantry and noticed an awful smell.  Our washer and dryer are right on the other side of the pantry so I was hoping it wasn't a nasty mold mess or something.  The smell started getting stronger and stronger as the day went on.  I knew that it had to be something dead.  I knew there was at least one sticky trap in the pantry but I was too afraid to look at it.  I certainly wasn't picking up a dead mouse to throw it away and I didn't want to have to wait out the rest of the day knowing that there was a dead mouse in the pantry.  I figured I was better off not knowing what exactly it was.

Also since we have been finding some spiders around the house with the weather getting cooler, I decided to take things into my own hands and douse our kitchen in peppermint oil.  From what I read, spiders and mice are supposed to hate the smell of peppermint.  I took a small spray bottle and filled it most of the way up and added about 20 drops of peppermint oil along with a few drops of liquid dish soap to help the oil and water mix.  I sprayed all along where the walls meet the ceiling and around our back door.

When Caleb got home the first thing I had him do was to check the pantry.  Sure enough there was a little squeaker in there.

So along with the smell of death, peppermint overload, the scent of popcorn from my lunch, I was also bleaching the bathtub....Caleb had quite the array of aromas to greet him when he came home from work.  :-D  I do what I can to keep his life interesting.

Saturday - Centralia was hosting a BBQ competition down at the town square.  We walked all the way there (it's a whole block away) and we went to check out the "petting zoo".  It was just a pen with a few goats, a sheep, and a potbelly pig.  Liam likes to point out goats and say "baa!" when I ask him what a sheep says, so I was excited because I thought he might like these animals.  NOPE.  He hated them.  He was excited to see other people's dogs though.  He pointed to one dog and said "Dog!" and I heard Caleb say "Oh that's not a dog.  That is a big rat."  I look over and see a little bitty yorkie dog.  Sigh.  The poor kid is going to be so confused about his animals.

Parents As Teachers also had a booth set up there.  They had kiddie swimming pools full of corn for kids to play in.  Liam just liked to play with the containers in the corn.  Also, if you stopped by the booth they put your name in a drawing for some prizes.  Liam won a board book!  :-)

Watching all of the other kids playing in the corn.

That's about it for this week!
