Week of August 18

Let me start off by clarifying my disclaimer from last time.  I didn't mean for it to be harsh in any way.  I just didn't want anybody to give me a hard time on my own blog about my personal choices.  I guess I have been around so many moms in the past couple of years (especially seminary moms) who are so passionate about their way to raise their children that they forget that there is more than one way to raise a child.  I did say that I welcome any advice, and I still stick with that.  I don't know much about raising a kid and will probably rely on advice from others.  If you were offended, can we be friends again?

Ok back to the good stuff...like a cute little baby.

Sunday
We finally got to take our little boy home.  :-)  He started making some crazy faces when we put him in his car seat.

Welcome home little guy!

We ended up taking him to church Sunday night.  We were just going to be sitting at home anyway so we figured we might as well have him make an appearance.  He slept the whole time and never got out of his car seat, but at least his first outing wasn't just to the doctor's office.

Monday
A lot of Caleb's family came over to see Liam.  I didn't get to see them much because I was too busy trying to catch up on some sleep.

Nap time with Grandpa

Meeting his great grandparents.  (He's named after this great grandpa)

Excited cousins!

Nehemiah reading a book to his favorite cousin.  Liam obviously enjoyed it.

4 Smith generations

My milk also noticeably started coming in Monday night.  I've never been so excited to see a milk dribble on a baby's mouth.

Tuesday
We took Liam to the doctor to make sure that his jaundice wasn't getting worse.  Our pediatrician didn't seem nearly as concerned as the pediatrician that Liam saw in the hospital.  She said he looked great!  He weighed in at 7 lbs 2 oz, which is 12 oz down from birth.  She said that it's really normal, especially with breastfed babies so she wanted to see him again in two days to make sure that his weight is at least holding even and not dropping anymore.

Wednesday
My sister came in town to visit.  It was so wonderful to have her here.  She peeled and sliced a bunch of peaches for me on Wednesday that Caleb's grandma had given us.  She also did lots of dishes for us and helped with laundry.  The help was wonderful, and I paid her in baby snuggles.

Thursday
It was my sister's birthday!!  We had to go to the doctor again and Liam had gained 5 oz since Tuesday!  Although after we left we headed to the lactation consultant and he dirtied his diaper twice in a row, so I'm not sure how much he actually gained.  I wanted to go to the lactation consultant because I never got to see one from the hospital so I wasn't sure if I knew what I was doing.  I pretty much just wanted a thumbs up or thumbs down on how things were going.  The consultant said that she would give him a 100%! She didn't really give me a whole lot of advice but at least I feel more confident in myself with feeding him.  Also, that milk dribble that I got so excited about?  Well, I now seem to have more milk than I know what to do with.  It may be painful, but it's exciting to know that I have more than enough milk to satisfy my tot.

My sister fixed us some meals while we were out at the doctor's office that we can keep in the freezer.  She also made a super yummy chocolate éclair for her birthday to share with us.  :-)

Friday
My sister left.  :-(  She was supposed to leave around 10:30 but ended up staying until 3 because she had better things to do than go home.  :-)  She had him all snuggled up and he started making little squeaky sounds.  He sounded like a rocking chair.   I can't seem to get the video of it to load to my blog, so you'll just have to click on this link to see it.  Make sure your volume is turned up.

Friday evening we pretty much just hung out with the lad.  I also took his picture with his one week tie.  How is he old enough for me to take this picture already?

Saturday
I didn't get up for the day until 11:30 and it was wonderful.  I had been up and back to bed several times, but I haven't gotten to sleep that late since Liam was born.

Liam got his first "bath" since coming home.  We meant to do it since like Wednesday but it never seemed to happen.  All we did was wipe him down with a sudsy washcloth then rub down with lotion.  He smelled so good.  :-)  Caleb's parents and grandma came to visit that afternoon.  They wanted to get their fill of baby snuggles.

This past week we were so blessed with church members bringing us food.  Every night was incredibly delicious.  I told Caleb that we might have to have babies more often if that is the kind of food people bring!  ;-)  Thanks to each of you who brought us food, we really appreciated it.

Here's a smattering of pictures of Liam throughout the week.

Just posing

This makes me laugh.  It doesn't even look like him.

Liam got a onesie from his cousin Caleb who he now shares a birthday with!  He's little bit too small, but he'll grow into it.  :-)  It says Baby Wingnut on it.  My cousin is the clubhouse manager for the Wichita Wingnuts minor league baseball team.

Chub Cheeks!
