Sunday December 30
Caleb preached at the church I grew up in, First Baptist Church of Fenton. Now, I have a good looking husband, but he's especially hot when he's behind a pulpit. :-) I'm really looking forward to the day when he becomes the pastor of a church and I'll get to hear him preach every Sunday again!
Monday December 31
Our dear friend, Neil, married his beautiful wife, Rebecca! We headed up to St. Peters for the wedding on Monday afternoon but made a quick at Starbucks to meet up with our friends from college, Glenn and Leah, to hang out for awhile before heading to the church. It's always good to get to catch up with them. And Caleb and Glenn are crazy alike and sometimes it's scary how similar they are. They even unknowingly dressed in the same color scheme for the wedding. After the wedding we headed back to my parents' house, but we were both exhausted, so we hiked up to bed at 11:00 pm. Yeah, we're old. What of it?
Here's some pictures of us with our friends from college at the wedding. I forgot to take some pictures, so I'm stealing these from Beth's facebook. (Shh....don't tell her).

Tuesday January 1
Two years ago today I said "I do" to one amazing man. Can it really be two years already? We didn't get to do anything to celebrate (yet), we just drove back to Indiana since Caleb had to work that night.
Wednesday January 2 - Friday January 4
I had to go back to work and I don't really remember anything particuarly special about these days. I'm pretty sure I probably came home from work every night and avoided laundry and dishes as much as possible. I'm really good at that.
Saturday January 5
I didn't feel good at all on this day, and of course, my awesome hubby let me be a loofa and not do anything all day.
Sunday January 6
After two weeks away, we got to go to church again at State Street! It was good to be back. We didn't have Sunday evening service, so I spent most of that time trying to get caught up on that laundry and dishes that I put off for so long.
Monday January 7 - Thursday January 10
Caleb had a J-term class this week, so he had class from 8 am - 5 pm Monday-Friday. That doesn't sound so bad, except he still had to work that week. I didn't get to see him a whole lot because usually whenever I got home from work he trying to sleep as much as possible.
Friday January 11
The day started off at the cardiologist. I've had some issues with my heart in the past couple of years. When I started working at Target again when we moved to Indiana, I was working very early mornings and started drinking more caffeine. I started feeling some flutters in my heart and got kind of concerned. I also felt very blah and had troubles getting a deep breath. I gave up caffeine completely in October 2011, and it helped tremendously with my issues. Here lately, though, I've been having some of the same issues, except without caffeine. I got a referral to a cardiologist just to see if what I'm experiencing is anything of concern. So far, at this appointment without much testing, the doctor thinks I don't have anything to worry about. We will find out for sure after a heart echo and a 24 hour heart monitor.
Friday after I got home from work, Caleb told me I had 10 minutes to pack while he heated up some dinner and then we were leaving. I've known for a few weeks that he was taking me somewhere this weekend, but it was a surprise. It is partly for our anniversay, and partly just because we can get away. Well, it took me way longer than 10 minutes to pack, but anyway we headed out around 7. He even hid the gps from me. I don't really like surprises, even though I let this one happen and maybe had even suggested it because it was fun, but boy was he driving me crazy that night! We ended up going to a bed and breakfast in Paoli, IN. We had an entire basement to ourselves. It was in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service and no internet. It. Was. Awesome. I loved being able to spend uninterrupted time with mah man. Although, we did head to bed fairly early because once again, we are old.

Saturday January 12
After a yummy breakfast of pancakes and egg quiche (I only ate pancakes because I'm on a pancake kick at the moment), we headed out to a small town called French Lick, IN. It was maybe a 15 minute drive away from where we were staying. It seemed kind of like a mountain town in Colorado. It was hilly and beautiful and slightly touristy. So what did we spend our time doing? Antiquing of course! We were driving around trying to find something to do and the nice couple's house we were staying at had suggested many things for us to do that day, but as soon as we drove past an antique store, we turned around. This place was one of the more "junkier" stores, which are the best. I spotted a Snoopy trunk-like thing and pointed it out to Caleb. I really really wanted it, but there was no price tag on it. We made our way through the rest of the store but came back to this trunk before checking out. The lady who was running the place told us that all prices are negotiable. Caleb asked her how much she wanted for the trunk and she said "Oh that thing is in bad shape. I'd take $5 for it." Hold the phone. We were expecting to toy and negotiate with the price around $20. $5? For reals? She told Caleb to get a good look at it and make sure he knew what he was getting, and the more we looked at it, it's in good shape, just really dirty! It's got particle board on the inside, but that's nothing that a little bit of fabric lining can't fix from potential splinters. So Caleb negotiated the price with that and the book he was buying down $1 because we felt like the prices were already too good to be true, but if she says we can negotiate, you almost feel like you have to. That lady also told us where the rest of the antique stores were in town. I'm pretty sure we went to all of them that were open. The rest of them were more flea-market-ish and more pricey and not as old junky. Although one of the stores did have a lot of cedar log amish furniture. I wanted every single piece. Well, I want Caleb to make every single thing they had there. I just love cedar log furniture! Fingers crossed someday Caleb can have a real workshop with the tools he needs to make that stuff. Because he's really good at it.

Another antique mall find that we didn't buy. Cable has his own comic book! (My grandma sometimes calls Caleb Cable, so we thought this was funny.) |
The rest of the day we spent napping and watching movies. Translation: as wonderful as a weekend can get. I'm ready for another weekend away already! :-)
Sunday January 13
We drove home from Paoli and rested up that afternoon. Then I had a hankerin for some chocolate cupcakes. I just so happened to have a box of devils food cake (60 cent Target clearance!) and baked some cupcakes. I was sure that I had chocolate icing....but it turns out I didn't. That is where pinterest comes in extremely handy. I found a wonderful recipe for chocolate icing, and I just may never buy chocolate icing again! These things were so good that my husband even ate several....and he doesn't usually like cupcakes.
Wednesday January 16
I went back to the cardiologist for a heart echo and to get a 24 hour heart monitor put on. The echo was actually kind of painful because the tech kept digging the ultrasound thing into my ribs. She said it would be easier if I had fat on my ribs. I was thinking she should have a better view without fat in the way, but apparently not. Then she ripped off the sticker things she had hooked up to me for a heart monitor I guess and oh my goodness painful. She of course blamed that pain on me too saying that I must be dehydrated and need to drink some water that day. -_- Then I went and had a heart monitor put on. It wasn't terribly uncomfortable, but just a lot of tape and sticky stuff all over me.
Since the doctor had told me to do whatever it is that normally causes heart flutters, like drinking caffeine, and to drink 10 cups of coffee that day. Pardon me for not doing what the doctor asked, but I drank about 2/3 of a can of Dr. Pepper and felt terrible. Then I used the heart monitor as an excuse to get cheese sticks from Arby's for lunch. Of course, my heart was on it's best behavior that day and I never felt anything out of the ordinary.
Thursday January 17
Boy howdy did I feel the effects from the caffeine I drank the day before. No bueno.
Saturday January 19
Caleb and I have started watching Parenthood on Netflix. That's pretty much what we spent our day doing. I love lazy days with him.
Sunday January 20-Saturday January 26
I came down with a cold this week so pretty much my life outside of work was spent sleeping. I did hear back on Wednesday that my heart echo looks fine and I should hear back soon about the monitor. I guess that means everything is ok. I asked the girl who called if that meant I had nothing to be worried about and she pretty much said she didn't know. Helpful, those people are.
This coming week is Caleb's birthday!! Yay!! (One of us has to be excited about it) I haven't gotten him anything yet, but I'm pretty sure his present will end up being some wii game/lego/batman 2 related, but I won't go into specifics in case he reads this. :-) I'm also going to build him a non-cake cake. Oh! And, I have another present for him this week that he already knows about, but stayed tuned to find out what it is! (Or maybe check on facebook because he might post about it on there.)
Love the snoopy trunk! :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa, first off I love that your "writing voice" is pretty much just like your speaking voice and I can hear all the funny little quips and sarcasims when I read your blog. Also heart stuff= SCARY! Yuck, I hope that they figure it out soon, that's kind of nerve wracking, also just incase you didn't know after 2 years of marriage a hubby that will steal you away for a weekend at at B&B = MAJOR SCORE! :) Lastly go you for getting all birthday excited, I'm that spouse in our house too, I personally enjoy all of those talking Hoops and Yo yo cards and leaving them all over the place the week leading up to E's birthday. Oh and you should totally combine all of those birthday ideas and get Caleb The lego batman game for the wii, it comes highly recommended from several boys that I babysit! BTW :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lydia! My doctor said that as long as my heart echo came back normal that my chances of having anything severe is pretty much 0%. He said it is most likely just hormone changes and could go away after I have the baby. And yes the batman lego games comes highly recommended in this house too, he just wanted the second one. :-) You have a great weekend as well!
