Week of September 2

Whoo!  What a week!

Sunday:
My parents and sister were still here and we went out to a Mexican restaurant for lunch after church before they headed back home.  It happened to be raining and my hair and moisture do not mix well.

Monday:
Since I was hanging out with my parents and sister all weekend, Monday was my day to catch up on housework.  I got some homemade rolls going for my hubby.  I also finished up a homemade yogurt masterpiece.  Thanks to a facebook friend, she helped me along with steps and tips on making yogurt and gave me lots of good tips for making yogurt and it is delicious!  Score!  I didnt get any pictures to document it, but I'm in the process of making some more that i'll share pictures of.  :-)

To go along with the homemade theme, I made this:

Any guesses?  If you guessed grated soap, you're right!  I grated some soap to use in making some liquid hand soap.  I realize hand soap doesn't cost much, but I grated two bars about a year ago and we are still using the same batch of soap!  We are getting close to the end and since I had the time, I went ahead and made some more.  The soap is definitely different than the soap you would buy in the store, but once you get used to it, it's great!

Tuesday:
This cop car pulled into the parking lot shortly after I did on Tuesday and I thought I was going to get to see a stake out and arrest.  Turns out that I set my hopes too high and he was just meeting someone there to give them a ride.

Wednesday:
We had an in-tents storm roll through, but the sunset going home was quite pretty.  As always, pictures don't do justice.

Thursday:
I don't know what it is with rocks, but my turtle likes to carry them around in his mouth.  I think he found the only purple rock in his aquarium.

Then I saw the weiner mobile when I was out walking!!

Thursday night I had my seminary wives class and got to hang out with this handsome fellow for a little bit inbetween work and class.  He even bought me dinner from Taco Bell.  He knows the way to my heart.

Friday:
The Bubble Truck showed up at work!  He does birthday parties and fundraising event type things and just has this truck that blows bubbles!  He also has some other things he uses to make some ginormous bubbles.

Friday night was Southern's fall festival.  I had been looking forward to going, but Caleb texted me around 5ish letting me know that he would be working late.  Later on he told me he probably wouldn't be able to make it.  I went ahead and went without him and met up with a girl from my seminary wives class.  She introduced me to one of her friends and we hung out for the evening.  I didn't get any pictures of the night because, well, I just met these people I was hanging out with.  :-)  I didn't want to seem creepy.  Because I'm not.

Saturday:
My homemade yogurt I finished on Monday ended up tasting like plain yogurt even though I had added some vanilla to the milk while it was cooking.  My facebook friend suggested I add some honey to sweeten it up.  Holy moly delicious!  The best part is that I have some local honey so it's even better for my allergies and immune system in this Ohio River Valley area where I seem to always have a sniffle or two in my day.  Since I have gone through quite a bit of honey this week, we headed down to the farmer's market today to find some more.  It's expensive stuff, although not much more than buying it from the store, but if it will keep me from being miserable in the spring with allergies, there's no price tag on that.  The lady who sold it to me this time told me that this honey has a bit of a smokey flavor to it.  I'm not quite sure how I feel about that but she said her husband uses it to sweeten his yogurt all the time and it's perfect for that.  We shall see.  It better be good because I bought two pounds of it.

I got to hang out with a friend from Target today for lunch that I haven't seen in months.  I love getting to hang out with her! We are both fairly busy and it's hard to find time where we can both hang out.   I also failed to take a picture of us hanging out.  Fail.  But hey, we were doing good just getting to hang out!

I went to the pet store today and bought my turtle friend some fishies!  I bought them with the intention of him eating them.  I asked for 5 of these feeder fish just to start him off since they were 5/$1 and the girl ended up giving me 7 because two of them were teeny. When I first put the bag of fish in the water to get the water temps the same, he definitely seemed leery of them.  Once I dumped the bag into the water, he started trying to hide behind his water pump.  I don't know what his deal is, but tonight I did see him starting to chase one of the little bitty ones around.  I dont know if he just wanted to play, or if he was just trying to terrorize it, or if he wanted to eat it.  As of last head count, all 7 were accounted for.  Apparently he watched Finding Nemo when I'm not home and thinks that fish are friends, not food.  Lame.

Maybe next week I can report on officially having less pets.  :-)

  1. I love reading about your exciting life. Keep writing. BTW, I was thinking you must have made a Big Batch of Soap a Year Ago or you do not wash your hands often. Just joking. :)
